{life in instagram} - December edition

Well, here we are... the last day of 2012.

And with that, comes the last {life in instagram} post of the year -- and probably the last one period.

Remember I told y'all in the April edition that I'd be curious how Facebook's acquisition of instagram affected it?  I know, I know... they SAY there won't be a privacy issue, but I don't totally buy it.

Hey, I'm just surprised I actually followed through with posting my instagram pictures every month here!  That is astounding in itself.

Anyway, here's the last batch for Twenty-twelve...

:: survival on soup, post wisdom teeth

:: workin'

:: rule # 1 - test the lights before they go on the tree

:: the black keys

:: dreary Vulcan

:: inside my phone cover -- good to remember

:: christmas in the streets

:: storms rolling in

:: home

:: sky on fire

:: this year, an absolute BLUR

Hope you have good memories of this year and are looking ahead to a bright 2013!

MERRY  CHRISTMAS

Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!”

:: Charles Wesley, 1739

a time to chill

Isn't this the greatest view?!

It belongs to some long-time friends that took a fun leap and decided to move downtown this year.
I would say that was a great decision.
Enjoyed a good night with these friends celebrating Christmas... in the big city.
{Thanks, JB!}

::::::::::::

Well, I think it's safe to say Christmas is officially underway, and I hope you are enjoying it already.

I, myself, am looking forward to a lot of downtime, filled with...

- a little of this:

- some of this:

- a whole lot of this:

- and not to forget this:

I haven't even watched this movie so far this season... there's something deeply wrong with that!  Or, maybe that's a consequence of not having cable. :)

Basically, I'm going to be vegging... my own kind of peace on earth.

Happy Festivus!

That's right... "a Festivus for the rest of us!"

So, get out that Festivus pole, air those grievances, and let the Feats of Strength commence!

And be sure to check the mailbox:

in plain view

So, things aren't all blurry around here.

Cue the yawns, here are the Christmas decorations in my humble abode...

What is it about Christmas lights that just make everything a little better?
I even get up earlier in the mornings now, just so I can drink coffee and look at my tree.  {Nerd alert!}

I don't care what Jeff Foxworthy says, I might just leave these things up all year.

Merry, merry, y'all!

blurry

It's the week before Christmas, isn't it?
Just checkin'.
How does it creep up so fast... EVERY. YEAR?

{sigh}

It can all be a BLUR, if we're not careful...

Welcome to my Impressionist phase.  {I kid.}

These photos are a result of just playing around with settings on my camera.  But when I saw them, I thought they summed up how a lot of people really do feel right now.

The world's been a pretty heavy place lately, hasn't it?

Good thing there's this:

Hebrews 6:19

The Message (MSG)
18-20 We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us...

Run to Him.

what a day

For some reason, my Tuesday thought it was Monday.

Shenanigans ensued...

First, my blow dryer died when I was getting ready for work this morning.
Kaput.
RIP.
Wet hair.
Coldest day yet in December.

I contemplated whether I should even go buy a new one since those Mayans say we, ourselves, will be kaput on December 21st.  I mean, I could get by for 10 days without a blow dryer, right?

Things started looking up when I had to go out this afternoon and scout for art and accessories to be used in an upcoming project.  When I made my purchases at the first store, the owner told me that they were giving away one vintage toy to every customer and pointed to a shelf from which to make my selection.

I scored this sweet silver dog:

A free doggy!  That'll turn your Mon-Tuesday around.

I was feeling good by then, so I headed to another store, continuing my project search.  Once again, generosity was found... this time, in the form of free coffee.

Free coffee on the coldest day yet in December?  Yes, please.

This is where it goes south again, guys.

{If my mama's reading this, she can already paint the picture... there's a reason she sarcastically refers to me as "Grace".}

In an effort to select a framed piece hanging on display, I managed to spill said coffee on myself and some of the goods around me.  IN AN ANTIQUES STORE.

Merry Christmas.

Fortunately, all was not lost.  The store clerk was supremely nice, helped me clean up the mess, and I thankfully didn't do enough damage to warrant buying any extra pieces.  That was a huge win in my book.

I decided not to press my luck further and shut down the shopping for the rest of the day.

So, I came home after work and turned on the Christmas tree...

...but not before I went and bought a new blow dryer.  :)

Christmas past

Around this time last year, I was enjoying the holidays with good friends in NYC.
{You can see a snippet of that trip in this post.}

I'm kind of wishing I was back there this year...

So, let's do the next best thing and look at some photos from that trip that I didn't include earlier.

We always say this should be an annual trip.
New York has that effect on you.  :)

breakfast of champions

I found this picture on my phone recently...

I'd probably taken it to send to my brother for a laugh when I spotted these in the store.

Because if there's one thing we love, it's Little Chocolate Donuts...

Favorite SNL commercial, hands down.

Happy Friday.   :)

the season

This is really more a message to myself than anybody reading this post...
But if you get something out of it, too, then that's a blessing.

To me, this is what Christmas time - and every day - should reflect.
It's vital to get outside of yourself.
I need to be so aware of that and live it out... to give my time, to be there.

{So, nobody's gettin' presents this year.  Just kidding...}

Thanksgiving: a pictorial

We came.  We saw.  We ate.

Thanksgiving in Camden was relaxing and just good, old-fashioned family time.

In a nutshell:
-we ate good food
-watched football {mostly old AU games to soothe the burn of this season}
-strolled the neighborhood
-binged on 'Duck Dynasty' episodes, JACK!
-toured the new city hall
-played golf {some of us}

... small town life at its best.

The pictures tell the story.
