food and such

Remember when I earnestly petitioned you to try the Archer Farms pizzas from Target?
Well... have you tried them yet?

If this isn't photographic evidence enough for you, then I give up.
Spinach, tomatoes, and goat cheese + the best crust.
Usually on sale, 2 for $9.

Jimmy agrees.

Moving on...

If I learned only one thing from watching one of the many cool travel/foodie series starring Anthony Bourdain, it was how to properly crack an egg.  He said to always, always crack it on a flat surface, such as a counter top.  I'm here to tell you, it works EVERY TIME.

Exhibit A:

Just look at that clean break!  Every time, y'all.
Maybe you already knew this trick.  Maybe I just educated you.
Either way, it's been a game-changer for me in the kitchen.

And finally, if you're fortunate to have a beloved Piggly Wiggly close by...

Did you know you can get these awesome homemade pita chips there?
And by "homemade", they mean pita bread gloriously deep-fried and salted.
This is a generous bag for less money than most regular bags of potato chips.
I got these a while back and enjoyed them with hummus or pimento cheese for quick lunches.
They're just as good as what I've found at some of the local Mediterranean markets around here.

summer so far

I've been on the road and in the sky lately, as is the norm for my summertime work travel.  This year, I am splitting time between Colorado and Arkansas.

Here are some random travel scenes thus far...

That's a cool bridge in Arkansas with a stormy sky above.

I love finding color on the job site... this vibrant pile of ladders made me happy.

This also made me happy... no one can resist the call of ice cream on a hot day.  And this was a first for me to see on a construction site!

More color found... a junky old trailer looks pretty great against that blue sky.

Interesting light in Houston Hobby airport.  Had a long delay here.

Late afternoon sun over the Rockies.

This tiny tub of goo has been my nostrils' best friend in the dry mountain air.  So tiny.  So good.  Not just for lips.

Guess Tim is not making movies anymore, or else he's got a sweet side gig.

Early morning trek to the airport.  Do not try this at home... but how could I resist capturing that sunrise?

Still have miles to go!

get out

Billy Ocean in a box!

This is the kind of stuff that makes me laugh.

Not a Goonie

Remember my beauty of a Ripple Jade from this post?

Well... Ripple Jade is now Dead Jade.

The real kicker?
This happened before I even started traveling for work this summer.

I really did pay attention and water when needed... so I thought.

Oh, well.  It was a fun couple of months, sweet succulent.

Happy Friday, one and all!

Did any of you catch a glimpse of Mars cozying up to the man in the moon last Saturday night?  I was home for the holiday with my family, and while watching the late local newscast, the weatherman told us {yes, he told us} if we went outside and saw a tiny orange dot to the right of the crescent moon that we would be looking at Mars.  So, I grabbed my camera, and found out he was speaking the truth...

See it?!  That tiny dot there.

I bet I'd have missed this cool sight if I'd been under the bright lights of the big city.  Small towns in the country are prime for stargazing, you guys.

It's just so fascinating and awe-inspiring... that big, huge universe.

land that I love

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

Thankful for this life of freedom... not just in this land, but in the Kingdom of God -- forever.

From Psalm 24:

24:1 The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob
